Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge

When a mission-driven champion like Nedd Brockmann meets an organisation ready to back big ideas—and a creative team brave enough to run with them—you don’t just get a fundraiser. You get a movement.

What makes this campaign so special?

Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge strikes a rare balance—the freedom of DIY fundraising with the energy of a communal event series. A choose-your-own-adventure meets “we’re-all-in-this-together” kind of magic that makes everyone feel like they're part of something bigger.

With the help of creative agency Bursty, Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge has grown from the spark of an idea into a full-blown social movement: 10 days where supporters choose their own challenge, show up for each other, and raise life-changing funds for people experiencing homelessness along the way.

All fundraising from Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge fuels the work of We Are Mobilise, helping people experiencing homelessness move into safe housing and rebuild their lives. Mobilise and Nedd are on a mission to transform the futures of 10,000 people by 2030—and every dollar raised pushes that vision closer to reality.

Nedd Brockmann:
The loveable heartbeat of the challenge

@nedd.brockmann

1 million raised through @neddsuncomfortablechallenge Thanks to every one of you doing the challenge. Supporting it, donating, pushing it. It's helping more people than you'll ever know. We truly believe homelessness is solvable in this country and we've been working tirelessly to show the community and to the higher ups that can make the long lasting change that so many Aussies deserve. To those of you that have taken part in this year's challenge, keep going, it's uncomfortable for a reason. The creativity this year has been epic to see. I truly hope in many years to come we're not raising anymore funds for @wearemobilise as there will be no one homeless in this country. Big dreams, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Feeling inspired, overwhelmed, cooked and grateful.

Nedd. Big heart, big energy and a very special ordinary-guy honesty that people instantly connect with.

He laughs easily. He works hard. He’s open about his struggles. And he’s utterly relentless about making life better for others.

Nedd first captured national attention when he ran across Australia—a 4,000-plus kilometre effort that turned a humble electrician into a national symbol of grit, generosity, and doing hard things to help others.

Since then he has raised millions, gone viral, attempted a world record, and rallied thousands to the mission.

Supporters don’t see a celebrity leading a challenge—they see someone like them.

Someone who sweats, swears, stumbles, gets back up… and keeps going.   That authenticity fuels the whole movement. It’s why people are proud to share their challenge videos, tag their mates, and document their “uncomfortable” moments online.

They’re not performing—they’re participating.

Supporters get to choose their own challenge. Anything goes:

  • Daily cold plunges
  • Sunrise hill sprints
  • No-phone days
  • 10 km runs before work
  • A hundred push-ups, a hundred times
  • Or something completely personal

Many don’t have the ability to give large donations, but they have something even more powerful—networks, influence, passion, and a willingness to put themselves on the line for a cause that matters.

The platform makes that easy. They become ambassadors without even realising. One challenge becomes ten. Ten becomes hundreds. And suddenly, tens of thousands of people are watching, cheering, donating, and joining in.

Spotlights and shout-outs

One of the secret weapons of this campaign is how closely Nedd and the team watch the community.

Supporters post their clips on TikTok and never quite know what’s coming next: a comment from Nedd, a stitched reaction, a shout-out, or… an unexpected real-world visit.

Harper’s moment is the perfect example. After breaking his collarbone, sixth grader Harper refused to sit the challenge out and switched from 200km of running to 200 km of riding—and he’d already raised more than $12,500 before the challenge even kicked off. Nedd spotted his updates, felt that determination, and turned up at Harper’s school with a surprise $10,000 cheque from CommBank to encourage him in the face of his injury.

The look on Harper’s face, the roar from his classmates, the sheer joy of it—the whole thing exploded on TikTok and shot Harper straight to the top of the leaderboard.

Moments like this are pure surprise and delight. They show that Nedd isn’t cheering from the sidelines—he’s in it with every fundraiser, celebrating their grit, turning their milestones into magic, and creating the kind of buzz that makes supporters think, “If he showed up for Harper… he might show up for me too.”

@uncomfortablechallenge Harper you star 💪🏼 Nedd had the honour of surprising Harper with a $10,000 cheque thanks to CommBank. Harper is riding 200km after his broken collarbone meant that he couldn’t run. Prior the challenge starting Harper had already raised over $12,500 and with this donation Harper is now first on the fundraising leaderboard! The communal surge

@uncomfortablechallenge Natalia Hogan is about to embark on her 172km run this Saturday from Sydney to Newcastle. Nat has raised over $30,000 already for those experiencing homelessness. For 10 days, Nedd hits the road—running sessions, workout meet-ups, sunrise challenges, community hikes—and supporters flock to be part of it.

These aren’t polished events with wristbands and barricades. They’re raw. They’re real. They’re sweaty, loud, emotional, and wildly motivating.

And when Nedd shows up, the whole thing goes next level.

The movement becomes something supporters can step into physically, not just digitally. It creates shared stories, shared discomfort, and shared momentum—and the platform captures that energy beautifully, bringing the online and offline pieces together into one cohesive fundraising journey.

The result?
More than $1.5 million raised in just 10 days

@uncomfortablechallenge Day 1 with Jase and Nige who are riding 1100km over 10 days. They have raised over $17k already. Get around them! A great morning on the bike with a bunch of good humans 🤝 #neddsuncomfortablechallenge #neddbrockman @Nedd brockmann ♬ original sound - Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge

That’s the impact of a movement built around personal choice, collective energy, and a platform designed to support both.

Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge is proof that when you give people the freedom to choose their own adventure and the pull of a community to move with, you don’t just raise money—you build momentum, connection, and passion for the cause, and make a huge difference for people doing it tough across Australia.

Curious how Nedd Brockmann’s mission to make homelessness impossible to ignore built a movement?
