3 magic things you can do with Messages

I’ve been in fundraising for over 15 years, with most of that spent in digital—building supporter journeys, automating touchpoints, and creating magical experiences that move people to act.

In this blog, I wanted to share three magic things you can do with Messages. They’re simple, powerful, and built around real supporter behavior.

Build Activation Loops that nudge supporters into action

In peer-to-peer, signups are just the start. The real magic happens when someone personalizes their page, shares it, and starts raising money. But that doesn’t always happen right away…

That’s why I use something I call Activation Loops (don’t Google it—you’ll get weird science stuff).

They’re gentle, targeted nudges that encourage supporters to take the next best action: add a photo, set a goal, make a self-donation, share their page, land that first donation.

Each message only sends if the action hasn’t been taken and the supporter hasn’t started fundraising—so you’re not nudging anyone already on their way.

You set these up to fire at set intervals based on days after registration. Say you’re recruiting from January for an event in March—these loops let you keep checking in regularly and move people forward, without burning them out.

Include a video in your email

Sometimes the most powerful message isn’t something you write—it’s a face, a voice, a moment.

With Messages, you can go beyond the standard receipt and automatically send a second, special thank you—just to people who gave an exact impact amount.

Maybe it lands an hour later. Maybe the next day. But it’s not just a repeat—it’s a message written specifically for the amount they chose to give.
